Poverty Alleviation

Our Poverty Alleviation Program

Despite major strides made in South African democracy over the past twenty years, disproportionate development is still widespread across the country, which has entrapped many disadvantaged communities in a vicious cycle of poverty.

Operation Snow Drop has developed poverty alleviation programs as a means to intervene so that we can relieve the impact of famine and hardship on these communities and help people escape poverty with dignity and respect.

What We Do

Operation Snow Drop’s poverty alleviation programs focus on economic security, food security, and other direct social interventions. Thanks to donations from our generous sponsors, volunteers, and our committee, we are able to support impoverished communities by sponsoring students for tertiary and university study; opening bakeries at high schools and hospitals; providing food, clothing, and other necessities to informal settlements; and more.

Our non-profit organization manages a number of ongoing projects, including:

  • Feeding 450 Tlakula High School learners on a daily basis.
  • Meal drives for 400 people and annual Christmas hampers.
  • Delivering school shoes and learning necessities to various schools in the area.
  • Handing out clothing, sandwiches, soup, fruit, curry, and other donations every Thursday in Geduld and to the Never Never and Hollywood informal settlements.
  • Partnering with FNB to open two bakeries (one in the Far East Rand Hospital and one in Tlakula High School) to provide food (over 200 loaves of bread a week), income, and to foster business acumen in employees.
  • Upgrading the paediatric ward in Far East Rand Hospital.
  • Dignity packs and undergarments for young women and other ladies in need.

With our involvement in these communities we hope to promote human rights, to eradicate poverty, to allow individuals to actively and productively participate in their community, and to protect humanitarian values in South Africa and across many other cultures throughout the world.
