In many first world nations, education is viewed as a right and not as a privilege. In South Africa, the opposite is true.
Every year it is estimated that nearly 250,000 school-aged children in South Africa do not attend school—and the older the child is, the less likely he or she is to attend. It is not surprising then that reports continue to reveal the inequality that plagues the South African school system with significant gaps in test scores between the disadvantaged and impoverished when compared to more privileged children.
Our Role in South African Education
Operation Snow Drop is a non-profit organization committed to improving access to education through our numerous upliftment and education programs. We work with students to make sure that they receive the tools and the knowledge they need in order to be self-reliant and to succeed in life.
With better education, a number of problems facing the less privileged citizens and communities of the world can be eradicated, including:
- Poverty
- Starvation
- Illness
- Social injustice
- Social disintegration
- Economic dependence
Our education programs start with promoting the learning of English fundamentals, math fundamentals, and science practicals. They then extend into sponsoring learners so that they may attend post-secondary institutions. We support the youngest vulnerable learners right up to young adults who have completed their matriculation exam and wish to pursue a degree. We also facilitate a baking course for special needs children to give them an additional skill as well as self-confidence.
At Operation Snow Drop, we believe that educating the young people of South Africa and giving back to the community is one of the best ways to improve impoverished communities and to create healthy, happy, self-sustaining citizens. And it’s thanks to our generous sponsors that we have been able to already sponsor well over a dozen students going into post-secondary studies to date.
